At the invitation of the President of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), on June 23 - 24, 2018, the delegation of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) led by Deputy Governor Nguyen Dong Tien attended the 88th BIS Annual General Meeting, which took place in Basel, Switzerland.
Within the framework of the Meeting, the SBV delegation attended the sessions of the annual meeting of the BIS’s Board of Directors, listened to the reports of the BIS’s committees and institutions, such as the Financial Stability Board (FSB), the Financial Stability Institute (FSI), the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS), the Irving Fisher Committee on Central Bank Statistics (IFC), the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI), and other independent organizations such as the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) ... The Meeting focused on analyzing and evaluating factors that affected economic growth and stability in the regions and in the world, such as the trend of “normalization” of globally monetary policy, the increasingly important role of central banks in financial stability, the development of digital money for payment and its impacts on the financial system and the conventional products, etc. Besides, the SBV delegation also had talks with the relevant BIS’s departments to strengthen cooperation, and with a number of member central banks to discuss the possibilities of promoting cooperation in the areas of mutual interest.
