According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) decreased by 0.09% in July 2018 against June 2018, and increased by 2.13% as compared to that of December 2017.
Specifically, the prices of eight out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared to the previous month.
The price index of group of other commodities and services registered the highest increase of 0.56%; followed by the price index of the group of food and catering services, which increased by 0.43%; the group of housing and construction materials went up by 0.37%; the group of the culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.26%; the garment, footwear and hat group increased by 0.12%; the group of household appliances and goods increased by 0.11%; the beverage and cigarette group, and the education group both went up by 0.05%.
The three groups had prices decreased are: the group of medicine and healthcare down by 5.85%; the price of the group of traffic down by 0.52%; the price of postal services and telecommunication decreased by 0.05%.
The core inflation in July 2018 increased by 0.15% as compared to that of the previous month, and increased by 1.41% over the same period of 2017. The average core inflation in the first seven months of 2018 was up by 1.36% as compared to that of the same period of 2017.
The gold price was down by 1.57% as compared to the previous month; increased by 0.48% in comparison with December 2017 and by 2.88% as compared to that of the same period of 2017. The USD appreciated by 0.84% against June 2018, by 1.3% in comparison with December, 2017 and by 1.28% as compared to that of the same period of 2017.
