That is the assertion by Mr. Gareth Ward - the newly-appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam during a meeting with Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Le Minh Hung to discuss the situation of cooperation between the two banking sectors on the afternoon of September 6th, 2018.
Overview of the meeting
At the meeting, Governor Le Minh Hung warmly welcomed Mr. Gareth Ward to visit and work with the SBV as the newly-appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Vietnam. The SBV Governor wished the Ambassador a successful term in Vietnam, and would make a positive contribution to the development of the cooperation between the two countries in general and between the banking sectors of the two countries in particular.

According to the SBV Governor, the relationship between the UK and Vietnam has been strengthened since the establishment of the bilateral strategic partnership in 2010, of which economic cooperation is a critical pillar. The Government and businesses of the United Kingdom have always accompanied the Government of Vietnam in the socio-economic development, contributing to the encouraging results achieved, such as maintaining high growth rates for many years.
Ambassador Gareth Ward congratulated the SBV on its important role in maintaining the macroeconomic stability and the impressive economic growth of the Government of Vietnam; The Ambassador also spoke highly of the cooperation and support of the SBV to British businesses in the field of banking and finance in Vietnam.

On the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two sides and the results achieved in the past, Ambassador Gareth Ward affirmed that the UK wishes and is ready to cooperate further with Vietnam in the banking sector.
At the meeting, Governor Le Minh Hung and Ambassador Gareth Ward also exchanged about the activities of the British banks in Vietnam. Accordingly, British banks in Vietnam are operating stably, in compliance with Vietnamese laws, and have been making a remarkable contribution to the development of the banking system in Vietnam.

The cooperative relationship between Vietnam’s Credit Institutions (CIs) and their counterparts in the UK market is generally positive. Vietnam’s CIs have established many correspondent banking relationships with their counterparts in the UK, and are performing well theirs role as a bridge to support payments and money transfers for the investors and businesses of the two countries.
Governor Le Minh Hung and Ambassador Gareth Ward also discussed the possibility of promoting the bilateral cooperation in the areas of FinTech and Green Credits; the current assistance of the UK in training high quality human resources for the banking system of Vietnam in general and the SBV in particular...
Governor Le Minh Hung and Ambassador Gareth Ward both expressed beliefs that strengthening the bilateral cooperation between the partners which are monetary and banking management agencies, and enhancing the cooperation between the banking systems of the two countries in the coming time, would contribute positively to promoting the bilateral investment and trade relations between the UK and Vietnam.
