On November 23, 2018 in Hanoi, Governor Le Minh Hung of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Mr. Koichi Miyata, President of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group.
Also attending the meeting were representatives of the SBV departments together with representatives from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and SMBC branch in Vietnam.
At the meeting, Governor Le Minh Hung warmly welcomed Mr. Koichi Miyata, President of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group and leaders of SMBC to visit and work with the SBV.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of SMBC branch in Hanoi, Governor Le Minh Hung emphasized that the Government of Vietnam in general and the SBV in particular acknowledge SMBC’s efforts and contributions to the development of Vietnam's economy over the past 10 years. In the recent years, SMBC branches in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city have been operating effectively, always complying with the relevant laws of Vietnam. He believed that SMBC’operations in Vietnam would continue to develop and achieve the results as expected.
Moreover, the SBV Governor said that the Government of Vietnam in general and the SBV in particular are strictly implementing the Scheme of restructuring credit institutions in association with dealing with bad debts for 2016-2020 period and one of the important substances is to encourage foreign investors to actively participate in the restructuring of the banking system. Therefore, the SBV encourages SMBC to actively participate in this process.
For his part, Mr. Koichi Miyata, President of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, expressed his thanks for the SBV’s support for the operations of SMBC in Vietnam over the past time. He also updated on the business strategy of SMBC in Vietnam in the coming time. He added that SMBC wished to further contribute to the development of Vietnam’s economy in general and the financial market in particular.
