According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in January 2019 increased by 0.1% against that of December 2018, and by 2.56% as compared to that of the same period of 2018.
Specifically, the prices of nine out of the eleven groups of commodities increased. The price index of the group of the beverage and cigarette registered the highest increase of 0.69%, followed by that of the food and catering services, which was up by 0.66%. The price index of the garment, footwear and hat group was up by 0.39%, while the price of the group of housing and construction materials increased by 0.35%. The price index of the other commodities increased by 0.34%. The price index of the culture, entertainment and tourism group increased by 0.33%. The group of household appliances and goods rose by 0.16%. The price index of the education group was up by 0.15%. The price index of the group of medicine and healthcare registered the lowest increase of 0.01%.
The prices of the two groups of traffic and postal services decreased by 3.04% and 0.09% respectively.
The core inflation in January 2019 increased by 0.3% as compared to that of the previous month, and increased by 1.83% over the same period of 2018.
The gold price index of January 2019 was up by 2.25% as compared to the previous month, and by 0.13% as compared to that of January 2018.
The USD index depreciated by 0.4% against that of December 2018, and by 2.32% as compared to that of the same period of 2018.
