On February 27, 2019, the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) issued Decision No. 333/QD-NHNN establishing the Steering Committee for the development of e-Government in the banking sector.
At the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong welcomed Mr. Tomoyuki Kimura to visit and work with the SBV, and briefed the guests of Vietnam’s macro-economic developments, the management of the monetary policy and the banking operations as well as the orientations in the coming time.
The SBV Deputy Governor highly appreciated the ADB’s collaboration in organizing the recent workshops introducing the ADB’s Strategy 2030, and the ADB’s new products and financing methods to the management authorities, policy-makers and other relevant parties in Viet Nam. Those workshops were good opportunities for Vietnamese agencies to understand the ADB's strategies, orientations and new financial products, thus contributing to improving the cooperation with the ADB.
About the ADB’s Country Partnership Strategy (CPS), the SBV Deputy Governor stated that, in the coming time, the SBV and the relevant ministries and agencies would coordinate with the ADB to develop the CPS for a new phase on the basis of the relevance to the ADB’s Strategy 2030, as well as Vietnam's socio-economic development orientations.
She added that the SBV highly appreciated the ADB for strengthening its activities in the private sector to support priority activities. Vietnam encourages the ADB to provide its financial support and know-how to promote the private sector development.
For his part, Mr. Tomoyuki Kimura thanked Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong for taking the time to welcome the delegation. He expressed his belief that, in the ADB's Strategy 2030, there will be revisions and adjustments, in which the ADB’s Board of Directors may allow certain flexibility for the ADF graduates and the fast repayment policy for some countries upon graduating from ADF in order to support those countries to have a most suitable roadmap for their graduation. For the private sector funding, he emphasized that the ADB wishes to expand its operations in the private sector in Vietnam, not only in traditional areas such as infrastructure and financial development…but also expand and increase financing for non-traditional sectors, non-infrastructure projects such as in agriculture, education, etc.
The SBV Deputy Governor expressed hopes that in the coming time, Mr. Tomoyuki Kimura would continue to propose to the ADB Board of Directors to support and approve the programs and projects for Vietnam, including financial and banking programs. The Government of Vietnam, the ministries, agencies and the SBV commit to make the most efficient use of the ADB’s funds. The Deputy Governor also conveyed a message of appreciation of the Government and the SBV to the ADB for its technical support and policy consultancy extended to Vietnam over the past years.
