On May 7, 2019 at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Doan Thai Don had a meeting with Mrs. Warangkana Wongkhaluang, Senior Executive Vice President of the Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Thailand). Also attending the meeting were Ms. Setasuda Tultathan, First Vice President of EXIM Thailand, and representatives of the SBV International Cooperation Department and the Banking Supervision Agency.

At the meeting, Deputy Governor Doan Thai Son warmly welcomed Mrs. Warangkana Wongkhaluang and her delegation to visit and work with the SBV. He emphasized that the cooperative relations between Vietnam and Thailand have continued to develop and achieved encouraging results. In ASEAN, Thailand is currently Vietnam’s largest trade partner, while Vietnam is the second largest trading partner of Thailand. At the same time, Thailand is among the ten largest foreign investors in Vietnam.
Assessing the presence of Thai credit institutions in Vietnam, the SBV Deputy Governor said that there are currently 7 Thai credit institutions operating in Vietnam under the forms of a foreign bank’s branch or representative offices. He added that the presence of Thai banks in Vietnam has contributed greatly to the development of Vietnam’s banking system, as well as the bilateral economic, trade and investment relations between Vietnam and Thailand.
For her part, Mrs. Warangkana Wongkhaluang thanked Deputy Governor Doan Thai Son for taking the time to meet the Delegation. She also gave a brief introduction about EXIM Thailand and expressed her wish to open a representative office of EXIM Thailand in Vietnam in order to enhance further the Bank’s business operations in this market.
