On May 27, 2019 at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong had a meeting with the ADB Directors representing European countries and Canada.
Also attending the meeting were representatives from the SBV International Cooperation Department, the Foreign Exchange Management Department, the Forecasting and Statistics Department and the Monetary Policy Department.
At the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong welcomed the working visit of the ADB Directors representing European countries and Canada to Vietnam to exchange their views about the ADB activities and to have a field trip to several of the ADB-funded programs and projects. The SBV Deputy Governor said that the cooperative relations between the SBV and the ADB have been developed and becoming stronger and more effective. Vietnam highly appreciates the support from the ADB, which is considered as one of the leading sponsors providing resources, technical assistance and consultancy services to Vietnam. Over the past time, the ADB’s support has contributed greatly to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong expressed her hope that the ADB Directors would play an important role in connecting the member countries to enhance their investment in Vietnam. Speaking highly of the ADB’s approval of its Strategy 2030, the SBV Deputy Governor stated that the priority fields in this Strategy basically matched Vietnam’s orientations in the coming time. She expressed her hope that, in the context of Vietnam’s graduation from the ADF, the ADB Directors would continue to consider and support Vietnam, as mentioned in the ADB’s Strategy 2030.
An overview of the meeting
For their part, the ADB Directors thanked Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong for her hospitality and expressed their impression with Vietnam’s achievements over the past time, especially the achievements in stablizing the macro economy, sustaining economic growth, reducing poverty, etc. According to the ADB Directors, Vietnam’s graduation from the ADF was one of important elements in the reviews and formulation of the ADB’s Strategy. However, the ADB would provide proper mechanisms in order to ensure Vietnam’s smooth graduation from the ADF and causing no interruption to the restructuring of the economy and the attainment of the poverty reduction target. The ADB Directors emphasized that the cooperative relations between the ADB and Vietnam have been and will be further strengthened and developed.
