On July 10, 2019 at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong had a meeting with Mr. Francois Painchaud - International Monetary Fund (IMF) Resident Representative for Vietnam and the Lao P.D.R.
Also attending the meeting were representatives of the Monetary Policy Department, the Monetary Forecasting & Statistics Department, the Foreign Exchange Management Department, the International Cooperation Department, the Banking Supervision Agency and the SBV Office.
At the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong congratulated Mr. Francois Painchaud on his new appointment as the IMF Resident Representative for Vietnam and the Lao P.D.R with an office term of three years, starting from June 3, 2019. The SBV Deputy Governor said the fact that Mr. Francois Painchaud continued to be selected as a resident representative in Vietnam after the end of his term in Georgia shows the credibility and appreciation of the IMF Board of Directors for Mr. Painchau's performance and contributions to the relationship between the IMF and Georgia.
On behalf of the SBV Board of Management, the SBV Deputy Governor hoped that Mr. Francois Painchaud, with his role as the IMF Resident Representative for Vietnam and the Lao P.D.R., would have objective assessments, following closely the macroeconomic developments and the monetary market in Vietnam, ensuring information and fully communicating the policies, orientations of the Government of Vietnam to the IMF, the international financial institutions, as well as to the press, hence helping strengthen the macroeconomic stability and the monetary market in Vietnam.
The IMF Resident Representative for Vietnam thanked Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong for taking the time to meet him. Mr. Francois Painchaud said he considers the further development of the relations between the IMF and Vietnam as well as with the SBV as the most important task in his term. He also pledged to continue and strengthen the traditional cooperation activities between the IMF Office and the SBV through internship exchange programs, and collaborate with the SBV to implement research topics on policy issues.

SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong believed as the IMF Resident Representative for Vietnam and the Lao P.D.R., Mr. Painchaud would continue to further strengthen the role of the IMF in Southeast Asia and the relationship between Vietnam and the IMF, helping connect regional activities within the framework of cooperation among the IMF member states and continuing to strengthen the capacity and training for the SBV officials and the related ministries in the fields of economic, financial and monetary management.
