According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.18% in July, 2019 against June, 2019, and increased by 1.59% as compared to that of December, 2019.

Specifically, the prices of nine out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared to the previous month. The price index of the group of food and catering services rose by 0.33% (of which the food prices rose by 0.05% and the foodstuff prices increased by 0.4%); the education group increased by 0.22%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.15%; the group of beverage and cigarette went up by 0.12%; the group of garment, footwear and hat increased by 0.1%; the group of household appliances and goods was up by 0.08%; the group of postal services & telecommunication rose by 0.01%; the group of medicine and healthcare increased by 0.02%; the group of other commodities and services was up by 0.94%.
The price index of the group of traffic and the group of housing and construction materials went down by 0.03%.
The core inflation in July, 2019 increased by 0.23% as compared to that of the previous month, and increased by 2.04% over the same period of 2018. The average core inflation in the first seven months of 2019 was up by 1.89% as compared to that of the same period of 2018.
Not included in the commodities and services accounted for in the CPI, the domestic gold price index in July 2019 was up by 4.78% as compared to that of June 2019 while the USD in July 2019 depreciated by 0.56% against the VND as compared to its value in the previous month.
