On August 18, 2019 at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu had a meeting with Ms. Lianys Torres Rivera, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Vietnam. Also attending the meeting were representatives from the SBV Department of Credit for Economic sectors and the International Cooperation Department.

Speaking to welcome Ms. Lianys Torres Rivera to visit and work with the SBV, Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu shared that since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries (on December 2, 1960), the comprehensive cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Cuba has been developing constantly and steadily. The Party and the Government of Vietnam, as well as all Vietnamese people always support Cuba and hope that Cuba will succeed in the progress of renovating her economic model, helping to develop her economy and improving her people’s living standards.

Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu emphasized that in the context of the fact that Cuba has been formulating policies for the economic model transformation, the Government of Vietnam in general and the SBV in particular are always willing to share experience on and provide support for the economic reforms, as well as attracting foreign investments by the Government of Cuba. Currently, many Vietnamese investors have expressed wishes to make investments into Cuban market.
In the spirit of cooperative and traditional friendship between the two countries, the SBV has established the cooperation with the Central Bank of Cuba (BCC) and has implemented cooperative activities and professional exchanges in the fields of monetary policy and banking system management. The SBV has sent several experts to Cuba to provide training support and improve the capabilities of the officials of the BCC. At the same time, the SBV has also received officials from Cuba to study and conduct surveys in the specific operations of the banking sector. The SBV is always willing to continue to share its experience and support the relevant entities of Cuba in this area.

For her part, Ms. Lianys Torres Rivera, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam, thanked Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu for his hospitality. She said that, over the past time, Vietnam has helped Cuba develop its strategies as well as support all aspects of life such as credit capital, life-support supplies, science and technology,... Therefore, she hoped that the two countries would continue to cooperate more effectively. She also reaffirmed Cuba’s readiness to collaborate and support Vietnam, in spite of facing current difficulties in economic development. She expressed her pleasure at the Agribank’s and VBSP’s intentions of investment and cooperation in Cuba.
