According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.32% in September 2019 against that of August 2019, and rose by 2.2% as compared to that of December 2018, and by 2.5% in comparison with that of the same time last year.

Specifically, the prices of eight out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared to the previous month. The price index of the education group registered the highest increase of 3.15%, followed by the price of the group of food and catering services, which increased by 0.56%; the group of other commodities and services went up by 0.25%; the group of household appliances and goods increased by 0.13%; the group of housing and construction materials rose by 0.12%; the garment, footwear and hat group increased by 0.09%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism and the group of beverage and cigarette were both up by 0.06%.
The price index of the group of postal services & telecommunication was unchanged. The group of traffic and the group of medicine and healthcare went down by 1.24% and 0.01% respectively.
The core inflation (excluding the price index of food, fresh food; energy and state-administered items including healthcare and education services) increased by 0.16% in September 2019 as compared to that of the previous month, and increased by 1.96% over the same time of 2018. The average core inflation in the first nine months of 2019 was up by 1.91% as compared to that of the same period of 2018.
