According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.59% in October 2019 against that of September 2019, and rose by 2.24% in comparison with that of the same time last year.

Specifically, the prices of ten out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared to the previous month. The price index of the group of food and catering services rose by 1.04%; the group of traffic increased by 0.99%; the group of housing and construction materials rose by 0.53%; the education group was up by 0.19%; the group of other commodities and services went up by 0.17%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.12%; the group of household appliances and goods was up by 0.09%; the group of footwear and hat increased by 0.06%; the group of beverage and cigarette went up by 0.04%; the group of garment, medicine and healthcare increased by 0.04%.
The price index of the group of postal services & telecommunication was down by 0.06%.
The core inflation (excluding the price index of food, fresh food; energy and state-administered items including healthcare and education services) increased by 0.15% in October 2019 as compared to that of the previous month, and increased by 1.99% over the same time of 2018. The average core inflation in the first ten months of 2019 was up by 1.92% as compared to that of the same period of 2018.
Not included in the commodities and services accounted for in the CPI, the domestic gold price index in October 2019 was down by 0.57% as compared to that of September 2019 while the USD in October 2019 appreciated by 0.03% against the VND as compared to its value in the previous month.
