On the morning of June 4, 2020, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh had a meeting with Mr. Loh Nee Thiam Harry - Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the United Overseas Bank Vietnam Limited (UOB (Vietnam)). Also attending the meeting were representatives from the SBV Payment Department, the Banking Supervision Agency, and the International Cooperation Department.

At the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh welcomed Mr. Loh Nee Thiam Harry - CEO of UOB (Vietnam) to visit and work with the SBV. The Deputy Governor wished that Mr. Loh Nee Thiam Harry would continue to lead UOB (Vietnam) to develop safely, effectively, with sustainable growth in the future. The SBV has recognized and made high evaluation of the development of UOB (Vietnam) since its establishment and commencement of operations in 2018.
The Deputy Governor said that through the SBV’s management and supervision, it has been clearly shown that UOB (Vietnam), as a 100% foreign-owned bank, has been operating with quite positive results. The Deputy Governor welcomed the orientation of UOB (Vietnam) to pursue the goal of becoming a digital banking model in Vietnam. This is not a trend but an inevitable necessity for banking operations in the future.
“Vietnam has issued several policies to promote non-cash payments, and the results are encouraging. Currently, most of the commercial banks in Vietnam have been accelerating robustly the digital transformation and building digital banking models,” the Deputy Governor shared.
Evaluating highly the development efforts of UOB (Vietnam) in the recent years, as a big name in the banking industry with developed technologies that have been applied strongly in its banking operations, the Deputy Governor hoped that UOB (Vietnam) would share its experience, as well as exchange operations aspects in the field of banking and currency.
Appreciating the Deputy Governor for taking the time to meet the Mission, the CEO of UOB (Vietnam) reported to Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh on the operations of UOB (Vietnam) and exchanged about the operations and development strategies of the bank in Vietnam in the coming time; discussed issues related to digital banking, non-cash payments and electronic customer identification (e-KYC), etc.
