On June 26, at the headquarters of the State bank of Vietnam (SBV), Governor Le Minh Hung had a meeting with Mr. Park Noh-wan, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to Vietnam.
At the meeting, Governor Le Minh Hung and Ambassador Park Noh-wan both spoke highly of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the ROK. Governor Le Minh Hung expressed his belief that Mr. Park Noh-wan would further promote the cooperative relations between the two nations in the coming time.
Ambassador Park Noh-wan congratulated Vietnam on having achieved positive results in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. He also made high evaluation for the guidance and direction of the Government in general and the SBV in particular in stabilizing the macroeconomy, maintaining the economic growth and ensuring social protection. In the context of the global pandemic, the Government and the people of Vietnam have made great efforts to cope with the coronavirus, and have brought the country back to a new normal status. Vietnam has also made thorought preparations for the assumption of the ASEAN 2020 Presidency, contributing to promote and strengthen the cooperative relations between ASEAN and its partners, including the ASEAN-ROK partnership.
Discussing the cooperation between the two countries, Governor Le Minh Hung asserted that the ROK has always been a trustworthy partner and one of the largest foreign investors in Vietnam. South Korean companies in Vietnam have played an important role in creating jobs, contributing to the economic growth of the country. The Government and the ministries/agencies, including the SBV, always welcome, encourage and facilitate Korean and other foreign companies and investors to operate in Vietnam.
Ambassador Park Noh-wan expressed his hope that the two countries would further strengthen the cooperative relations in the banking industry, particularly in the field of fintech, digital banking and digital transformation in banking, etc.
Governor Le Minh Hung stated that digital transformation in the financial sector is an inevitable trend and Vietnam’s banking industry cannot stand out of this trend. The SBV, within its jurisdiction, has always created maximum favorable conditions for the application of new and advanced technology in the banking operations, along with ensuring the legitimate rights and safety for the service users. The Governor hoped that the Ambassador would provide his active support to the enhancement of the cooperative relations between the SBV and the ROK counterparts, promoting the experience exchanges and sharings in the technological application and the formulation of the regulatory frameworks for fintech development.
