According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in September 2020 increased by 0.12% against that of August 2020; up by 2.98% as compared to that of September 2019.

Specifically, the prices of six out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared to the previous month. In which, the price index of the group of beverage and cigarette increased by 0.05%; the group of footwear and hat increased by 0.1%; the group of housing and construction materials went up by 0.62%; the group of medicine and healthcare was up by 0.01%; the group of education increased by 2.08%; and the group of other commodities and services rose by 0.02%.
The prices of the remaining five groups decreased as compared to the previous month, of which the group of food and catering services was down by 0.31%; the group of household appliances and goods declined by 0.06%; the group of traffic went down by 0.12%; the group of postal services & telecommunication decreased by 0.02%; and the group of culture, entertainment and tourism was down by 0.2%;
Also according to the GSO data, the core inflation decreased by 0.02% in September 2020 as compared to that of the previous month, and increased by 1.97% over the same time of 2019. The average core inflation for 9 months of 2020 was up by 2.59% as compared to that of the same period of 2019.
