On October 24, 2020 in Hanoi, the Communication Department of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) in coordination with the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University (VNU-UEB) organized the Final Round of the Contest “Correct Understanding of Money” for college/university students in the Northern region. The contest was a creative communication approach to financial education in order to implement the National Financial Inclusion Strategy and Government’s schemes (Scheme on Improving access to bank services; Scheme on promoting cashless payments in Vietnam for the 2016-2020 period; and the Scheme on enhancing payments via banks for public services).
The event was attended by SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh, Mrs. Le Thi Thuy Sen, Director General of the SBV Communication Department, and representatives from Department of Social Affairs (Office of the National Assembly), leaders and representatives of several SBV departments, commercial banks, etc. On the side of Vietnam National University, there was Asso. Professor Dr. Pham Bao Son, VNU Vice President, Asso. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truc Le, Rector of VNU-UEB.
Right after the launching ceremony on October 1, 2020, the Contest “Correct Understanding of Money” had attracted the interest of a great number of students from many colleges and universities in the Northern region with nearly 100 teams registered to participate (each team had 3 members). After one month of highly competitive and exciting competitions, from the Preliminary Round to the Semi-Finals, the 4 best teams going to the Final Round in 2020 were from Hanoi University of Law, the Foreign Trade University, the VNU University of Economics and Business, and the Banking Academy.
Overview of the Final Round of the Contest "Correct Understanding of Money"
With the key message of equipping students with knowledge of skills for smart money, the Contest focused on the information about non-cash payments, lending products, control of black credit, management of personal finance, etc. The format of the Contest was very flexible, from online/virtual to offline competitions with a variety of topics such as: quizzes, essays, presentations, arguments, scenario videos, etc., which not only brought attraction and excitement in every round of the Contest, but also helped convey banking and financial knowledge to the students and the community in an easy-minded, comprehensible and memorable manner. The performances of the teams were carried out meticulously in both the quality of the contents and the appearances, reflecting the students' serious working spirit and excitement in the Contest.
During the competitions, the teams won the right to answer the questions by ringing their bell. This aimed to ensure fairness and objectivity for each team.
The winners of the 2020 Contest “Correct Understanding of Money” were the Banking Academy team, who won convincingly throughout the Contest from the Warm-up to the Acceleration and the Finish. The second prize was given to the team from the Foreign Trade University, and the third prize belonged to both teams from the VNU-UEB and Hanoi Law University. Besides, there were also extra prizes to encourage the students' spirit, such as the Prize for the most popular team; the Best Cheerleaders' Prize; the Best-styled Team's Prize; the Best Presentation's Prize; and the Best Argument's Prize.
The Contest Organizers make donations to help the people in the Central Region
In order to join hands with the whole country to help the people in the Central Region to overcome the consequences of the heavy rains and floods, the Contest Organizers also took this opportunity to call for the kind-hearted donations from the organizers, the invited guests and the participating students. VND 55 million was raised at this Ceremony, and this amount will be transferred to the people in the Central Region through the "Sunday of Love" Foundation run by the Department of Social Affairs (Office of the National Assembly).
