According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in October 2020 increased by 0.09% against that of September 2020; up by 0.09% as compared with that of December 2019 and up by 2.47% in comparison with that of October 2019.
Specifically, the prices of six out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared with the previous month. In which, the price index of the group of education registered the highest increase of 1.35%; the group of housing and construction materials went up by 0.29%; the group of beverage and cigarette increased by 0.08%; the group of footwear and hat increased by 0.06%; the group of medicine and healthcare was up by 0.01%; and the group of other commodities and services rose by 0.09%.
The price indices of four groups decreased as compared with the previous month: the group of culture, entertainment and tourism went down by 0.18%; the group of food and catering services declined by 0.31% (the price index of food was up by 0.16% while the price index of foodstuff decreased by 0.28%); the group of traffic went down by 0.08%; the group of postal services & telecommunication decreased by 0.03%. The group of household appliances and goods was unchanged.
Also according to the GSO data, the core inflation increased by 0.07% in October 2020 as compared with that of the previous month, and increased by 1.88% over the same time of 2019. The average core inflation for 10 months of 2020 was up by 2.52% as compared with that of the same period of 2019.
