According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in April 2021 decreased by 0.04% against that of March 2021, and increased by 1.27% as compared with that of December 2020. In comparison with that of the same period of 2020, the CPI rose by 2.7%; the average CPI for the first four months of 2021 was up by 0.89%, the lowest increase since 2016.
Specifically, the prices of four out of eleven groups of commodities decreased while the prices of six groups increased; only the price of the group of garment, footwear and hat was unchanged.
The price of the group of food and catering services decreased by 0.13%; the group of housing and construction materials declined by 0.43%; the group of postal services & telecommunication was down by 0.2%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism decreased by 0.11%.
The price index of the group of traffic registered the highest increase of 0.87%; the group of beverage and cigarette increased by 0.14%; the group of household appliances and goods was up by 0.11%; the group of education rose by 0.03%; the group of other commodities and services rose by 0.07%; the group of medicine and healthcare was up by 0.01%.
The average core inflation for four months of 2021 was up by 0.74% as compared with that of the same period of 2020.The core inflation in April 2021 and for four months of 2021 registered the lowest increase over the past five years.
