According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in August 2021 increased by 0.25% against that of July 2021; up by 2.51% as compared to that of December 2020, and up by 2.82% in comparison with the same time of 2020. For eight months of 2021, the CPI increased by 1.79% as compared to the same period of 2020, which was the lowest increase since 2016.
Specifically, the prices of four out of eleven groups of commodities increased, in which the group of food and catering services registered the highest increase of 0.74%; the group of beverage and cigarette increased by 0.22%; the group of education was up by 0.04%; the group of medicine and healthcare was up by 0.02%.
The group of traffic decreased by 0.06%; the group of postal services & telecommunication was down by 0.05%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism registered a decline of 0.03%; the group of footwear and hat went down by 0.03%.
The prices of the remaining three groups of housing and construction materials, household appliances and goods, and other commodities and services were unchanged as compared to those of the previous month.
The core inflation decreased by 0.02% in August 2021 as compared with that of the previous month, and increased by 0.98% over the same time of 2020. The average core inflation for eight months of 2021 was up by 0.9% as compared with that of the same period of 2020. The core inflation in August and the average core inflation for eight months of 2021 both registered the lowest increases since 2011.
