According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in September 2021 decreased by 0.62% against that of August 2021; up by 1.88% as compared to that of December 2020.
Out of eleven groups of commodities, the prices of five groups of commodities decreased and the prices of six groups of commodities increased.
Specifically, the price of the group of education registered the highest decrease of 2.89%; the group of housing and construction materials was down by 1.99%; the prices of the group of traffic and the group of food and catering services both decreased by 0.16%; the group of postal services & telecommunication went down by 0.06% against the prices of August 2021.
The price of the group of beverage and cigarette registered the highest increase of 0.17%; the group of household appliances and goods was up by 0.09%; the group of medicine and healthcare increased by 0.03%; the group of footwear and hat and the group of other commodities and services both rose by 0.02%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.01%.
The core inflation decreased by 0.26% in September 2021 as compared with that of the previous month, and increased by 0.74% over the same time of 2020. The average core inflation for nine months of 2021 was up by 0.88% as compared with that of the same period of 2020, lower than the average CPI (up by 1.82%), reflecting the fact that the CPI developments have been mainly influenced by the increases in the prices of food, gasoline, oil and gas.
