On January 11, 2022, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Governor Nguyen Thi Hong had a meeting with Mr. Patricio Becker, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Chile to Vietnam.
Congratulating Mr. Patricio Becker on his role as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Chile to Vietnam, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong expressed her beliefs that the Ambassador would have a successful office term, contributing to enhancing the cooperative relations between Chile and Vietnam in general, and between the Embassy of Chile and Vietnamese authorities, including the SBV, in particular. According to the SBV Governor, the two-way trade volume between Vietnam and Chile is currently still quite modest, however, with the strong efforts and determination to promote the commercial and investment relations between the two countries, as well as with the development of technologies and modes of transport, this volume would certainly increase. She added that the foreign partners and investors in Vietnam all have strong confidence in Vietnam's long-term political and macro-economic stability. Therefore, she hoped that Vietnam would attract more foreign investors, including those from Chile.
Exchanging about the macro-economic situations, the SBV Governor shared that the Government of Vietnam has given high priority to the infrastructure development, SME support, climate change responses, green and sustainable growth, etc. Vietnamese banks have been in the process of digital transformation. However, many Vietnamese banks are facing with the challenge from their lack of experience and expertise. Therefore, she expressed her hope that the commercial banks of the two countries can enhance their bilateral connection and cooperation in order to exchange and share more experience and expertise in this area.

For his part, Chilean Ambassador Patricio Becker affirmed that he would put his best efforts in enhancing the cooperative relations between the two countries, especially in the field of modernization of the two banking sectors. The Chilean Embassy would support and create favorable conditions for Chilean businesses to directly engage and establish commercial ties with Vietnamese enterprises. He also stated that Chile always stands ready to support the SBV in the digital transformation. Besides, the Ambassador also expressed his interest in boosting the bilateral cooperation in the areas of renewable energy development and the trading of agricultural products between the two countries, etc.
