According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in August 2022 increased slightly by 0.005% against that of July 2022, up by 3.6% as compared to that of December 2021. The average CPI for eight months of 2022 was up by 2.58% in comparison with that of the same period last year.
Out of eleven groups of commodities, the prices of nine groups of commodities increased and the prices of two groups of commodities decreased.
Specifically, the price of the group of education registered the highest increase of 1.46%. The price of the group of food and catering services increased by 1.05%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism was up by 0.43%; the group of beverage and cigarette rose by 0.27%; the group of housing and construction materials increased by 0.26%; the group of household appliances and goods rose by 0.21%; the group of other commodities and services increased by 0.2%; the group of footwear and hat was up by 0.18 %; the group of medicine and healthcare increased by 0.09% as compared to that of July 2022.
Among the two groups that went down, the price of the group of traffic experienced a decrease of 5.51% and the group of postal services & telecommunication was down by 0.01%.
The core inflation increased by 0.4% in August 2022 as compared with that of the previous month, and increased by 3.06% over the same time of 2021. The average core inflation for eight months of 2022 was up by 1.64% as compared with that of the same period of 2021.
