On December 06, 2022, in Hanoi, Mr. Pham Thanh Ha, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Mr. Heung Mo Lee, former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Korea (BOK) (term of 2014 to 2016). Mr. Heung Mo Lee is currently Senior Advisor of the BOK’s Knowledge Partnership Program (BOK - KPP).

At the meeting, Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha welcomed Mr. Heung Mo Lee, together with the representatives from the BOK and the consultants of the BOK - KPP in 2022 to visit and meet the SBV.
The SBV Deputy Governor shared that, after the establishment of the Strategic Partnership, over the past years, the cooperation between the two countries has been developing strongly and comprehensively in all areas. The Republic of Korea (ROK) is currently among Vietnam's largest foreign investment and trading partners. Especially, Vietnamese State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and ROK President Yoon Suk-yeo had announced a joint statement on upgrading the relationship between Vietnam and ROK to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership a few days ago. Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha expressed his wishes and beliefs that, the cooperation between Vietnam and Korea would continue to be consolidated and developed in all aspects, including the banking area, contributing to the promotion of the partnership between the two countries in the coming time.
Sharing about the macro and the currency management, the SBV Deputy Governor said that, the top and consistent priority of the Government of Vietnam and the SBV has been controlling the inflation and maintaining the macro-economic stability. On that basis, over the past months, the SBV has operated the monetary policy in a proactive and flexible manner, despite the complicated developments of the world market, and in alignment with the domestic situation; thereby contributing to the objectives of controlling the inflation and maintaining the macro-economic stability, ensuring the safe operations of the credit institutions, directing the credit flows into the priority fields, supporting the economic recovery and development, etc.

Talking about the BOK - KPP, the SBV Deputy Governor asserted that, this is a practical, effective and comprehensive cooperation program. Also, it has created a good opportunity for the SBV staff to learn the new knowledge and experience from the Korean experts. The Vietnamese banks are currently undergoing a strong transformation process, and in order for those banks to progress to the next stage of development, it is necessary to learn and apply the experience of advanced countries like ROK. Therefore, the SBV Deputy Governor hoped that the two sides would continue to enhance the cooperation in furthering the exchange and research programs in the coming time.
On the side of the BOK, Mr. Heung Mo Lee highly praised the enthusiasm and dedication of the two countries' research teams. Mr. Heung Mo Lee hoped that, the research results within the framework of the BOK - KPP 2022 program would make a positive contribution to the direction and administration of the SBV in particular, and of Vietnamese Government in general.
