According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in February 2023 increased by 0.45% against that of January 2023. For the first 2 months of 2023, the CPI increased by 4.6% as compared to that of the same period last year.
Out of eleven groups of commodities, the prices of five groups of commodities increased, while the prices of six groups decreased against those of the previous month.
Specifically, among five groups of commodities which experienced price increases, the price of the group of traffic registered the highest increase of 2.11%; the group of housing and construction materials was up by 1.81%; the group of commodities and other services went up by 0.12%; the price of the group of household appliances and goods was up by 0.09%; and the group of medicine and healthcare increased by 0.02%.
On the other hand, among six groups of commodities which experienced price decreases, the prices of the group of education decreased by 0.57%; the group of food and catering services went down by 0.17%; the price of the group of beverage and cigarette fell off by 0.12%; the group of postal services and telecommunication went down by 0.1%; the group of garment, footwear and hat was down by 0.08%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism decreased by 0.02%.
Also according to the GSO data, the core inflation in February 2023 increased by 0.25% as compared to that of the previous month, and went up by 4.96% as compared to that of the same period last year. For the first 2 months of 2023, the core inflation rose by 5.08% as compared to that of the same period of 2022.
