On May 23, the Communication Department of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), in coordination with the Banking Academy, organized a series of communication events on financial literacy with the focus on the Final Round of the “Tomorrow Bankers 2023” Contest.

The event was attended by SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh, representatives from the National Assembly Committee for Social Affairs, the Office of the National Assembly, leaders and representatives of several SBV departments, the Banking Academy, the National Economics University, Hanoi University of Commerce (Thuongmai University – TMU), as well as several commercial banks, etc.

In his opening speech, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh highly acknowledged the initiative of the SBV Communication Department and the Banking Academy to organize the series of events of the “Tomorrow Bankers 2023” Contest in order to implement the National Financial Inclusion Strategy.

This year’s series of events was organized in a creative way, with many practical and meaningful activities for students, such as the “Tomorrow Bankers 2023” Contest, a "GenZ Bank" Exhibition, a “GenZ start-ups in the digital era” Talkshow; a Students’ Supermarket; bookstores for students; a ceremony on awarding scholarships to the poor students who have overcome difficulties and achieved extraordinary performance, as well as social security packages to the "Sunday for Love" program, etc.

"Tomorrow Bankers 2023" was a contest not only for the banking students, but also for many students of other universities and students pursuing other majors to participate. The SBV Deputy Governor also commended the active participation of students from various universities. Through this contest, not only did students receive a wealth of knowledge, but potential employers could also have a better and more comprehensive evaluation of the students’ qualifications.

SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh also acknowledged the active engagement and the sense of responsibilities of the credit institutions and other related entities in organizing the series of events, as well as in promoting the communication on financial literacy, contributing to implementing the National Financial Inclusion Strategy, the directives of the Government and SBV’s policies on non-cash payment, and on credit extension to limit black credit.

In the coming time, the SBV Deputy Governor has requested the Communication Department to continue to develop and promote more communication products, especially on the social media and digital platforms. The SBV Deputy Governor wished that the "Tomorrow Bankers" series of events would further prosper, helping to create a community with better understanding of finance and banking, thereby contributing to the cause of socio-economic development in Vietnam.

Mrs. Le Thi Thuy Sen, Director General of the SBV Communication Department, speaks at the Final Round

Speaking at the Final Round, Mrs. Le Thi Thuy Sen, Director General of the SBV Communication Department, shared that the communication on financial literacy to the people is a current trend of central banks around the world in order to enhance the information transparency and financial knowledge, as well as to ensure the transparency and comprehension of the laws among the people. The communication methods of countries around the world also mainly target young people, with the use of the modern media, focusing on the messages that are easy to remember, easy to understand, and easy to follow; and from these young people, the communication messages will be disseminated and spread to the general community, creating a good financial community.

In Vietnam, the Prime Minister has issued Decision No. 149/QD-TTg dated January 22, 2020 approving the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion to 2025, with orientations to 2030; in which, an important component is improving the people’s financial literacy, aimed at changing their awareness and behaviors, and creating good financial habits in the community. With this goal, over the past years, the SBV has focused a lot of efforts on the financial education programs (such as “Smart money”, the contest on “Correct understanding of money”, etc.). The series of events “Tomorrow Bankers” has also been developed as part of the general financial education programs of the SBV.

Mrs. Le Thi Thuy Sen asserted that the program’s title “Tomorrow Bankers” was an initiative raised by Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh when he was still working at the Banking Academy. The Organizers of this year’s program were just followers, implementers of this initiative in a serious, creative and innovative manner, in order to bring values to the community, in line with the wishes of SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh.

The Director General of the Communication Department also thanked SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh, the leadership of the Banking Academy, all students, journalists, and the credit institutions for their enthusiasm. Through this program, the Organizers hoped that young people would be equipped with necessary knowledge and skills, as well as develop other qualities, such as compassion, a sense of sharing, and a desire for rising up in the society.

In the coming time, the SBV Communication Department would continue to implement more financial education programs in order to disseminate more widely the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion, especially among young people. The SBV would also transfer more communication products to the digital applications, modern technology platforms, etc. in order to disseminate more widely the knowledge and skills on smart finance, therefore reducing the risks for and protecting customers when using financial services in Vietnam.

SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh awards scholarships to students of the Banking Academy.

Sharing at the final round, Dr. Bui Huu Toan, Chairman of the Council of the Banking Academy, added that, inheriting from the previous generations’ legacy, the Banking Academy would continue to maintain the organization of the “Tomorrow Bankers” contest in order to equip the students with knowledge and skills, helping to spread the knowledge from the lessons delivered by the lecturers at the academy, with reference to the practical experience. Thereby, the students would have necessary knowledge, skills, confidence to adapt to real-life working conditions right after their graduation, aiming to realize the common goals of the banking sector.

Mrs. Le Thi Thuy Sen, Director General of the SBV Communication Department, awards social security packages to the "Sunday for Love" program.

Within the framework of the program, the Organizers awarded several scholarships to the poor students who have overcome difficulties and achieved extraordinary performance, as well as social security packages to the "Sunday for Love" program; in which, "Sunday for Love" is a monthly event implemented by the National Assembly Committee for Social Affairs, in collaboration with the SBV and Hanoi Heart Hospital, with many practical activities for the community and the society in order to spread widely the spirit of humanity. The Organizers also presented the Certificates of Acknowledgement to the sponsors of the series of events.

After the tense and thrilling preliminary and semi-final rounds, the final round occurred in the afternoon of May 23, 2023 with the attendance of the four best teams. Those teams went through four competitions reflected through the application of the theatrical format, combined with folk games, folk songs, proverbs, famous quotations, etc. in order to disseminate banking and financial information in a lively, easy-to-understand and easy-to-remember manner.

Through the four creative and attractive competitions, the winners of the “Tomorrow Bankers 2023” were Team A.N.I. from the Banking Academy. The first runners-up were Team Money Heist from the Banking Academy, while the second runners-up prize was co-awarded to Team Future Bankers from the National Economics University and Team CLT from TMU. In addition, the Organizers also awarded a number of secondary prizes, such as “the most liked poster”, “the best cheerleading squad”, etc.

The Organizers award the prizes to the winners, the first runners-up, and the second runners-up.

Previously, in the morning of May 23, 2023, the exhibition themed “GenZ Bank” and the talkshow “GenZ starts up in the digital era” had been organized. Through this series of events, young people had the opportunities to experience and use modern banking products and services, helping spread the culture of reading; enhancing their knowledge on banking and finance. They also had the chance to listen to the sharings by speakers, who inspired them about financial management, experience in using financial leverages when starting up a business, experience in investing in securities, as well as the positive examples of real people’s huge efforts from life to provide young people with more confidence and energy, the will to live and to overcome any difficulties, and to prosper in life, etc.
