On September 13, 2023, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Governor Nguyen Thi Hong had a meeting with Mr. A.Saj U. Mendis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to Vietnam.

At the meeting, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Vietnam congratulated Governor Nguyen Thi Hong on being selected as one of the three Central Bank Governors with an “A+” grade in the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2023 (An “A” grade represents an excellent performance). Moreover, the Ambassador also shared about the current economic situation in Sri Lanka, and made high evaluation for the encouraging results that Vietnam has achieved over the recent decades, especially in the current period, in spite of numerous economic difficulties and uncertainties around the world.

Also at the meeting, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong mentioned that, thanks to the strong leadership of the Government and the Prime Minister of Vietnam, the effective coordination of the Ministries and agencies in the management of the macro-economic policies, as well as the SBV’s enormous efforts in operating the monetary policy and managing the forex market over the past time, Vietnam has achieved encouraging results in controlling the inflation, maintaining the macro-economic stability and stabilizing the money and forex markets. The SBV Governor also shared about the collaboration between the monetary and the fiscal policies with the aims of controlling the inflation, maintaining the macro-economic stability, promoting the economic growth, and removing the difficulties in production and business operations. On this occasion, the SBV Governor also conveyed her congratulations to the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on being selected as one of the Central Bank Governors who earned an “A-” grade in the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2023. This has reflected the great and effective efforts of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in regulating the interest rates, stabilizing the national currency of Sri Lanka, reducing the inflation rate from a peak of 65% to 6% within 12 months in light of many difficulties and challenges in Sri Lanka’s economy.
Toward the end of the meeting, the SBV Governor expressed her hope and beliefs that, during his term in office, the Ambassador would make positive contributions to the development and the promotion of the diplomatic and economic cooperation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Governor Nguyen Thi Hong affirmed that the Government of Vietnam would continue to be consistent and determined in controlling the inflation, maintaining the macro-economic stability, proactively conducting various policies and measures to improve the business environment and restructuring the economy towards sustainable development.
