On October 13, 2023, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) organized a virtual conference on the implementation of the work related to cash, vault safety, and the prevention of such crimes as thefts and robberies of bank assets, and the orientations for the future. Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu chaired the Conference.

In his opening speech, Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu emphasized that the work related to cash and vault safety is always one of the key banking operations. These specific operations play a crucial role in determining the reputation and the operational efficiency of each and every commercial bank, and is of great importance for the state management, the assurance of the assets and the operational safety of the banking industry. Therefore, the SBV Board of Management always pays high attention to this task.
In 2022 and in the nine months of 2023, the banking industry had faced many difficulties and challenges. Therefore, the SBV had conducted various measures, especially in relation to the credit operations, payments, technology, etc., in order to control the inflation, maintain the stability of the macro-economy, the exchange rates, while managing to reduce the interest rates, supporting the businesses and the economy. In that context, in parallel with the above tasks, over the past time, all of the entities in the banking system have followed closely the SBV’s guidance and instructions on the work related to cash and vault safety; ensuring smooth transactions, meeting fully and quickly the demands of the economy; improving the quality of the sorting and classification of the money notes; the security and safety of cash preservation and transportation, as well as the prevention of such crimes as thefts and robberies.
An overview of the Conference
At the Conference, representatives of a number of the SBV entities, the SBV branches and commercial banks reported on the results of the cash collection and payment, and the structure of the types of money in circulation, as well as the work of collecting, exchanging, selecting, classifying money notes, the vault safety, the prevention of such crimes as thefts and robberies in 2022 and in the nine months of 2023. Several measures were also proposed for the improvement of the performance of this task in the coming time.
Toward the end of the Conference, Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu requested the entities in the entire banking sector to continue to improve the awareness and responsibility for the vault safety; strengthen and further promote the role of the State management at all levels in this field, as well as the management, supervision and responsibilities of the head offices of the commercial banks; continue to pay attention to investing in the infrastructure and facilities for safety assurance; innovate the mechanism of cash operations; continue to strengthen the coordination to prevent risks, etc.
