On January 19, 2024, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu had a meeting with Mr. Patrick Cyr, Director for International Development at Developpement International Desjardins (DID), which finances the Project of Strengthening the People’s Credit Funds Network (STEP project). Also attending the meeting, on the DID’s side, there was Mr. Jean Boisvert, Project Director of the STEP project in Canada.

At the meeting, Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu said that the SBV had conducted a mid-term review of the STEP Project, and the initial results after three years of implementation have received high and positive recognition. The Deputy Governor requested the relevant parties to put more efforts in, accelerate and focus on the implementation the STEP Project in the coming time so that the Project can be completed with the most satisfactory results, and the Project should be concluded on time, not later than March 31, 2025.

Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu also proposed that Canada support Vietnam in projects related to the development of the people's credit funds, gender equality and the environment, such as responses to climate change, support to SMEs. The SBV Deputy Governor further proposed that the Canadian partners share more about Canada's priorities for development assistance, and hoped for other projects following the STEP project in the coming time.

For his part, Mr. Patrick Cyr updated the host on the progress of the STEP Project and shared some issues and orientations for the Project in the coming time. Mr. Patrick Cyr also asserted that Canada has highly acknowledged that Vietnam and the SBV have pioneered in signing financial commitments covering the environmental protection and green development. Mr. Patrick Cyr affirmed that information transparency and sharing about Canana's priorities in development assistance would enable the two sides to gain positive results in the coming time. The DID Director for International Development also shared about the DID's plan to open its official representative office in Vietnam in the near future.
