On May 14, 2025, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), First Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu had a meeting with Mr. Kohdayar Marri, Pakistani Ambassador to Vietnam.
An overview of the meeting
At the meeting, Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu spoke highly of the long-term cooperation between Vietnam and Pakistan. In 2024, the two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Pakistan reached nearly 1 billion USD. Between the central banks of the two countries, a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation was also signed a long time ago, and the two sides expect to have more in-depth finance and banking cooperation in the future.

Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu emphasized that Vietnam and Pakistan have great potentials that need to be exploited to promote further the bilateral cooperation, taking the relationship between the two countries to a new height. In the banking sector, the SBV is always ready to cooperate with and support Pakistan in developing the digital technologies in the banking sector, including the QR Code payment technology, and to promote the cooperation in the money printing technology.
The Deputy Governor also expressed his beliefs that during his term in Vietnam, Ambassador Kohdayar Marri would contribute to further promoting the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Pakistan.

Mr. Kohdayar Marri expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Governor and the SBV for their time and warm hospitality. The Ambassador also expressed his hope to promote the connections between the provinces and businesses of the two countries, and to implement various forms of cooperation. In particular, the Ambassador proposed that Vietnam’s banking sector create favorable conditions for Pakistani businesses’ operations in the areas of settlement, foreign exchange, credit guarantees, and foreign investment procedures in order to attract more Pakistani businesses to invest in Vietnam.
According to Ambassador Kohdayar Marri, cash is still widely used in Pakistan and cashless payments have not yet been developed. Therefore, he expressed his desire to cooperate with Vietnam in the areas of money printing, as well as in promoting the QR Code payment technology.
