Governor Nguyen Van Binh of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Country Director Tomoyuki Kimura of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Vietnam on June 17.
At the meeting, SBV Governor Nguyen Van Binh spoke highly of the role and the contribution of the ADB and Mr. Tomoyuki Kimura in the socio-economic development of Vietnam during his working term in Vietnam, as well as the support and confidence of the ADB in Vietnamese Government’s and the SBV’s policies. He wished that Mr. Tomoyuki Kimura, on his new position, will continue to obtain much success and contribute to further enhancing the relationship between Vietnam and the ADB.
For his part, Mr. Tomoyuki Kimura said that the four-year working term in Vietnam is a valuable experience for him when witnessing both socio-economic achievements and the great challenges to macro-economic stability that Vietnamese Government had to handle at this stage. He highly appreciated the important role of the SBV in the contribution to macro-economic stability, effective implementation of monetary policy tools to stabilize money market, the initial success of the restructuring of the banking system and NPL resolution. Moreover, he committed that the ADB will continue to accompany Vietnam in the development next stage by increasing the funding scale for the development of priority sectors, and consulting the formulation of policies and Plan on Socio-economic Development for 2016 – 2020 period. On this occasion, he also announced that the financial sector will continue to be the priority area in the ADB’s strategy of supporting Vietnam for 2016-2020 period. Therefore, this is a good opportunity for Vietnam's banking sector to continue further reforming and developing in the coming time.
