National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung on September 8 met with President of the World Bank (WB) Group Jim Yong Kim in Washington DC, the U.S.
The Chairman expressed his thanks for WB assistance for Viet Nam and revealed that Viet Nam wishes to receive more assistance from the institution in completing its market economy policies and increasing preferential loans, especially loans for launching sustainable development goals, upgrading infrastructure and reducing poverty.
As one of the nations seriously suffering from climate change, Viet Nam proposed the WB support Viet Nam in this field.
The WB President praised Viet Nam’s socio-economic development, including achievements in realizing sustainable development goals.
He asserted that the WB will consider assisting Viet Nam in coping with climate change.
Speaking at the conference on the increasing role of the Vietnamese National Assembly in the national development, Viet Nam has made efforts and positive changes in the national development process and completed the realization of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Evaluating the cooperation and assistance of the WB in all areas such as policy consultancy, technical and assistance, the Chairman supposed that the effective cooperation between the two sides has helped Viet Nam develop socio-economic infrastructure, reduce poverty, develop human resources, establish institutional system, policies and laws serving the national renovation, international integration and launching Millennium Development Goals.
The Vietnamese National Assembly has affirmed its role as the highest representative agency of the people to promote the national management quality, sustainable development and people’s lives, he said.
Viet Nam’s priority is to maintain peace, ensure national security, protect sovereignty and respond to climate change, he added.
