Banking Vietnam is an annual banking technology event co-hosted by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and International Data Group (IDG) to exhibit and introduce the achievements of information technology and applications for banking services.
Banking Vietnam 2016 included several workshops and conferences for bankers, financial specialists and IT experts to discuss and exchange solutions, strategies for developing banking services on the basis of applying advanced information technologies and communications in order to enhance competitive capacity and meet Vietnam banking system’s international intergration demands.
This year, Banking Vietnam was held on May 18-19, 2016 in Hanoi with the theme: “innovation and transformation – key factors for banks improving operational efficicency and competitive advantage in the new context of integration”.
The keynote session of Vietnam Banking 2016 focused on the overall development strategy of Vietnam banking sector until 2025, vision to 2030; opportunities and challenges for the sector in the period 2016-2020; transforming information technology infrastructure based on the digital platform and building the sustainable security infrastructure for banks.
The intensive sessions concentrated on themes “Reinforcing management capabilities and innovating banking information infrastructure" and "Innovation in distribution channels toward customer-centric banking", reflecting the importance of building up capacity of resource and IT infrastructure management; the strategy of transforming transaction bank model for better customer experience; the digital banking and mobile banking initiatives; social networking and customer engagement; NFC technology applications in the field of payment.

Banking Vietnam 2016 Expo created a useful platform for bank managers to directly experience technology products, new banking services and products; expanding cooperation and direct exchange between suppliers of modern banking equipment and technology with banking managers in Vietnam. During this year event, around 30 exhibitors from leading technology companies and corporations, domestically and internationally, showcased and introduced the latest technological solutions in financial and banking sector.
Speaking at Banking Vietnam 2016, SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh stated that Banking Vietnam 2016 had accomplished the assigned tasks and got noticeable success, attracting attentation from experts, Management Board of SBV and commercial banks, and individuals working in banking industry. SBV Deputy Governor added, period of 2016 – 2020 is a new development stage, in which, Vietnam Banking sector is in face of several challenges, pressure of competition from foreign banks concurrently capture many opportunities from process of international economic intergration.
Looking out the achievements of Banking Vietnam 2016, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh expected Vietnam banking sector in general and commercial banks in particular will find out an appropriate orientation for modern banking technologies and services, contributing to enhance efficiency and competitive capacity to keep up with other banks in the region and the world.
