Prime Minister of Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc was on behalf of Communist party of Vietnam and the Government of Vietnam to award Friendship Order conferred by President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, and The Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Le Minh Hung awarded Commemorative Medal for contribution to development of Vietnam Banking system to Madam Victoria Kwakwa, the World Bank Vice President for East Asia Pacific region to acknowledge her valuable contributions to the development of relationship between Vietnam and World Bank, making essential contribution to socio - economic development of Vietnam in general and banking sector in particular. The award ceremony took place on July 25th, 2016 at the SBV headquarter.

Speaking at the ceremony, SBV Governor Le Minh Hung highly appreciated Madam Victoria Kwakwa’s support and contribution to the cause of socio-economic development of Vietnam over the past time. Madam Victoria Kwakwa started her working term as WB Country Director for VN from April 2009 and had witnessed the challenging period when Vietnam was facing with a numerous difficulties caused by global financial crisis, conducting decisive reforms and obtained significant achievements. Apart from great efforts of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Government of Vietnam, the international community supports, the WB and Madam Victoria Kwakwa played crucial roles in these achievements. With a non-stop determination, Madam Victoria Kwakwa made great contribution to the process of upgrading the relationship between Vietnam and the WB from cooperative to partnership relation, establishing the foundation for recent strong partnership between the two sides.
Additionally, Madam Victoria Kwakwa also has been a bridge for the WB to provide timely and practical policy consultancy, financial and technical assistance for Vietnam. The SBV Governor Le Minh Hung stated: “Leaders of Government, ministries and local authorities deeply understood her heartfelt sentiment and witnessed her active contribution to the growth of Vietnam. Her name and image become familliar not only to the Governmental Agencies through coordinated policy dialogues, but also to local people in disadvantaged and remote areas via her trip to drought, flood and natural disaster sites. Therefore, WB’s supports and assistance for Vietnam always get really high appreciation by international community for its practical usefulness to the progress of socio-economic development and poverty reduction in Vietnam”.
As regard to Vietnam Banking sector, Governor Le Minh Hung underlined, WB’s supports are really helpful for the SBV to enhance its capacity, to improve institutional and legal framework on banking operation in line with international practice, to facilitate the SBV to perform better the central bank’s functions and monetary policy management and ensure the safe and sound banking system to boost necessary reforms in banking sector supporting for macroeconomic stability and economic development of Vietnam.
In order to recognize her exceptional accomplishment, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam bestowed Madam Victoria Kwakwa with Friendship Order, the most prestigious award for foreigners. Concurrently, the SBV awarded “Commemorative Medal for contribution to development of Vietnam Banking system” to Mrs. Victoria Kwakwa to acknowledge her valuable contributions to the development Vietnam Banking sector.
Speaking at the ceremony, Madam Victoria Kwakwa emotionally expressed her sincere thanks to the Government of Vietnam, the SBV and Vietnam people for acknowledging her works and contribution. “I’m very honor to be awarded these order and medal. I would like to thank the Government of Vietnam, people of Vietnam and partners for effective cooperating and supporting me and my colleagues in WB over the past time”, said Victoria Kwakwa. Affirming her tenure in Vietnam made a memorable mark in her career and life, Madam Victoria Kwakwa committed to continue supporting Vietnam with the new position in the WB.
