On September 11, 2025, high-level bilateral meeting between the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) took place in Bangkok, Thailand. The talks were co-chaired by SBV Governor Nguyen Thi Hong and BOT Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput. Attending the meeting were senior leaders from relevant departments and divisions of both central banks.
During the meeting, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong and Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput took turns chairing sessions focused on:
(i) The macroeconomic situation, policy management in both countries, and the policy challenges posed by recent fluctuations in international trade;
(ii) Policy discussions on banking operations, with an emphasis on identifying key areas and directions for future technical cooperation between the two central banks.
Overview of the meeting
Both sides shared updates on their respective macroeconomic developments and banking sectors, while also expanding discussions to cover timely issues such as the impact of trade policies from major economies and policy priorities to sustain growth amid ongoing global uncertainties. In addition, the meeting focused on exchanging experiences and addressing challenges related to supervisory cooperation and enhancing inspection and supervision efficiency, particularly in the context of the SBV’s recent organizational restructuring aimed at streamlining operations and improving institutional structure.
Recognizing that the digital economy is increasingly becoming a key growth driver for emerging markets, including Thailand and Vietnam, both sides shared experiences in supervision, statistics, and data collection—especially in applying artificial intelligence (AI) and financial technology (fintech) to these areas. They affirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in the future.
The two Governors highly appreciated the effectiveness of the talks and agreed to maintain a regular high-level dialogue mechanism. They expressed confidence that the SBV and BOT will continue to be close and reliable partners, working together to overcome challenges and contribute positively to the friendship and shared prosperity of both nations.
According to the plan, the next high-level bilateral meeting will be held in Vietnam in 2026.
