Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Mr. Ramesh Subramaniam, Director General of Southeast Asia Department of Asian Development Bank (ADB), in Hanoi on September 18.
Attending the meeting were Mr. Eric Sidgwick, ADB Country Director for Vietnam; Mr. Norio Saito, ADB Country Vice Director for Vietnam and representatives from SBV departments.
On behalf of SBV Management Board, Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu warmly welcomed the working visit of the ADB delegation led by Director General Ramesh Subramaniam to Vietnam. He also congratulated Mr. Ramesh Subramaniam on being newly appointed as Director General of Southeast Asia Department of ADB, and hope that Mr. Ramesh Subramaniam would greatly contribute to enhancing cooperative activities among ADB and regional countries, especially Vietnam.
At the meeting, the two sides exchanged their views on public debt ceiling, negotiation and preparation for programs and projects in 2017 – 2018 and other issues.
Exchanging about ADB’s support for Vietnam’s graduation from ADF, Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu said that in spite of achievements in growth and poverty reduction, Vietnam would continue facing many challenges concerning with sustainable poverty, uneven development and climate change. Therefore, Vietnam hoped ADB would consider formulation of proper mechanism to support Vietnam after its graduation from ADF, so that its graduation process would not interrupt the maintenance of achievements in sustainably economic growth.
For his part, Director General Ramesh Subramaniam highly appreciated Vietnam’s encouraging results in socio-economy over the past time, especially results in the restructuring of the banking sector. Besides, he expressed his pleasure at the development of cooperative relation in various fields between ADB and Vietnam, and asserted that ADB would continue to cooperate and support Vietnam in new fields.
Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu thanked Mr. Ramesh Subramaniam for his updating and sharing information about ADB’s upcoming implemented programs and projects. He also said that Vietnam hoped to get further technical assistance and policy consultancy from ADB in many fields.
