According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.73% in February, 2018 against January, 2018, by 1.24% as compared to that of December, 2017, and by 3.15% in comparison with that of the same period of 2017.

Specifically, the prices of nine out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared to the previous month. The price index of the group of food and catering services registered the highest increase of 1.53% (of which the food prices rose by 1.44% and the foodstuff prices increased by 1.71%) mainly due to the increasing demands on the occasion of Tet holidays and the demands of rice for export. The price of the group of traffic was up by 0.79% due to increases in the prices of gas, diesel oil in the previous month; the beverage and cigarette group increased by 0.75%; the group of other commodities and services was up by 0.74%; the group of the culture, entertainment and tourism went up by 0.72%; the household appliances and goods increased by 0.27%; the garment, footwear and hat group increased by 0.2%; the group of medicine and healthcare rose by 0.07%; the education group increased by 0.02%.
Meanwhile, the price of the group of housing and construction materials decreased by 0.09%, and the price of postal services and telecommunication declined by 0.07%.
The gold price was up by 1.83% as compared to the previous month, by 3.55% against that of December, 2017, and by 6.05% in comparison with that of the same period of 2017. The USD depreciated by 0.01% against the VND as compared to that of the previous month; by 0.05% in comparison with that of December, 2017, and by 0.04% against that of the same period of 2017.
The core inflation in February, 2018 increased by 0.49% as compared to that of the previous month, and by 1.47% over the same period of 2017. The average core inflation in the first two months of 2018 was up by 1.32% as compared to that of the same period of 2017.
