Sibos 2019 Conference was held from September 21-25, 2019 in London, the United Kingdom under the theme of “Thriving in a hyper-connected world". Sibos 2019 London attracted more than 11,000 participants over the world, including 30 attendants from Vietnam, who come from the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and 12 commercial banks.
The delegation of Vietnam’s banking sector was led by Mr. Nguyen Van Anh, Director General of the SBV Central Banking Department cum Chairman of VIETSWIFT.
In light of the challenges and opportunities from the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) and impacts of the global economic tensions, Sibos 2019 discussed the impacts of the new technologies, and came up with recommendations for developing new value standards, skills, culture and business models in order to maximize the capabilities of humans and technological systems.
Sibos 2019 with the theme of “Thriving in a hyper-connected world" focused on the following key sub-themes: (i) Enhancing digital ecosystems; (ii) Leveraging data; (iii) Keeping ahead of cyber security threats; (iv) Adapting to shifting geopolitical and regulatory priorities; and (v) Exploring the human element.
The program of Sibos 2019 was also composed of discussion sessions on conventional topics in finance and banking sector, as well as new technologies, such as cross-border payments, instant payments, SWIFT gpi applications, fund management, AI, blockchain, compliance - legal benefits or barriers, API seamless interaction applications, cloud computing, etc. Sibos 2019 was an opportunity for meetings, exchanges, connections and establishment of partnerships, and interactions with institutions and banks around the globe.
Just before Sibos 2019, Mr. Nguyen Van Anh, Director General of the SBV Central Banking Department, also attended the meeting of the SWIFT Chairpersons. The meeting discussed issues of much interest of the banking community, such as SWIFT Global Payment Innovation Initiative (SWIFT gpi), Customer Security Programme (CSP), solutions to help central banks enhance the control of forex management and international payment, ISO 20022 in Banking and Finance.
SBV delegation works with SWIFT senior leaders
Within the framework of Sibos 2019, the SBV Delegation also participated in the side seminars and workshops on banking trends and experience in the state management of foreign reserves. The SBV delegation also had working sessions with some international partners such as the Bank of England, the National Bank of Belgium, Clearstream Banking AG, Wells Fargo, Westpac, Raiffeisen Switzerland, etc. to exchange contents related to the state management of foreign reserves, thereby strengthening and expanding the cooperative relations to diversify investments and mitigate risks.
