According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in February 2021 increased by 1.52% against that of January 2020; up by 0.70% as compared with that of the same period of 2020; the average CPI for the first two months of 2021 was down by 0.14% as compared to that of the same time last year.

Specifically, the prices of ten out of eleven groups of commodities increased, in which the group of housing and construction materials registered the highest increase of 4%; the group of food and catering services rose by 1.61% (the price index of food was up by 1.77%, the price index of foodstuff increased by 1.82%, and the price index of dining-out services rose by 1.01%); the price index of the group of traffic increased by 1.55%; the group of beverage and cigarette increased by 0.9%; the group of footwear and hat went up by 0.25%; the group of household appliances and goods increased by 0.2%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.13%; the group of postal services & telecommunication was down by 0.03%; the group of medicine and healthcare was up by 0.01%; the group of other commodities and services rose by 0.74%. The price index of the group of education was unchanged as compared with that of January, 2021.
The core inflation increased by 0.48% in February 2021 as compared with that of the previous month, and increased by 0.79% over the same time of 2020. The average core inflation for two months of 2021 was up by 0.64% as compared with that of the same period of 2020.
