According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in March 2022 increased by 0.7% against that of February 2022; up by 1.91% as compared to that of December 2021; and increased by 2.41 as compared to that of the same period of 2021. In the first quarter of 2022, the CPI increased by 1.92% over the same period last year, and the core inflation increased by 0.81%.
Specifically, out of eleven groups of commodities, the prices of ten groups of commodities increased, while only the price of the group of food and catering services went down.
Particularly, among ten groups of commodities which experienced price increases, the price of the group of traffic registered the highest increase of 4.8%; the group of housing and construction materials was up by 1.49%; the group of other commodities and services went up by 0.46%; the price of the group of culture, entertainment and tourism also increased by 0.21%; the price of the group of household appliances and goods was up by 0.19%; the group of garment, footwear and hat was up by 0.12%...
The price of the group of food and catering services went down by 0.27%, in which: the price of grain food increased by 0.17%, the price of foodstuff decreased by 0.48%, and the price of outdoor eating and drinking increased by 0.08%.
Also according to the GSO data, the core inflation in March 2022 increased by 0.29% as compared to that of the previous month, and went up by 1.09% as compared to that of the same period last year. In the first quarter of 2022, the average core inflation increased by 0.81% as compared to that of the same period in 2021, lower than the general average CPI (up by 1.92%), which reflects the fluctuations in the consumer prices, mainly caused by rising food, gasoline, oil and gas prices.
