In the afternoon of March 21, in Hanoi, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with the Japanese Financial Services Agency (JFSA) delegation led by Mr. Nakajima Junichi, President of the JFSA.
At the meeting, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong welcomed the JFSA delegation to visit and work with the SBV and expressed her sincere thanks for Japan’s support for Vietnam’s economic development.
The SBV Governor emphasized that, over the past years, the extensive and in-depth cooperative relations between Vietnam and Japan have been enhanced and developed in various areas, especially in the current context of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Japan and Vietnam.
Governor Nguyen Thi Hong also affirmed that Japan is an important partner and the largest ODA provider to Vietnam, contributing to the development of large-scale infrastructure projects, enhancing the sustainable socio-economic development and the human resource development, etc. Despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan has remained as one of Vietnam's top economic partners.

In the banking sector, at present there are several Japanese credit institutions operating in Vietnam; several large banks from Japan have become strategic shareholders of important banks in Vietnam’s banking sector.
The SBV Governor also highly appreciated the JFSA's practical and efficient assistance to Vietnam through various workshops and training programs, especially the annual internship program at the Global Financial Partnership Center (GLOPAC). Moreover, the SBV Governor asserted that the Project on strengthening the SBV’s capacity in relation to the restructuring of the system of credit institutions has produced a Policy Report with valuable recommendations.
Governor Nguyen Thi Hong hoped that the JFSA would continue to enhance the cooperation with the SBV in capacity training by expanding the topics within the internship program at the GLOPAC to cover financial innovation, green credit, etc. In addition, the SBV Governor also proposed that the JFSA further share their experience in green and sustainable finance in Japan in order to promote credit in this area in Vietnam.

Within the meeting agenda, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong and JFSA President JFSA Nakajima Junichi signed the Letter of Exchange between the SBV and the JFSA on Cooperation in the area of Financial Innovation.

At the signing ceremony, the two sides both agreed that the signing of the Letter of Exchange between the SBV and the JFSA is a critical step in the bilateral cooperation, especially in the context of the rapid development of Fintech, requiring the authorities to enhance the cooperation and experience sharing, to get updated on the fintech development trends and innovations, as well as to promote the human resource development activities in this area.
