On October 8, 2026, speaking at a press conference announcing “Vietnam Digital Payment Day 2026,” Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Director General of the Payment Department under the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), said that Vietnam’s digital payment ecosystem had made remarkable progress, with significantly improvements in service quality and customer experience. The seamless integration of banking services with essential utilities has created an increasingly comprehensive digital environment in which people can access and complete a wide range of transactions through a single touchpoint.
The press conference announcing “Vietnam Digital Payment Day 2026,” themed “Tap Digital – Live Green,” was co-organized by Tien Phong Newspaper and the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS), under the editorial direction of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV). Leaders of the Payment Department and representatives of the SBV Office attended the event.
Connecting digital payments with smart consumption and sustainable development
Over the past five years, “Vietnam Card Day” has become a widely recognized program, helping bring card payments closer to individuals and businesses, particularly young people. However, with the rapid development of technology, Vietnam’s payment ecosystem has evolved far beyond traditional card payments.
Under the theme “Tap Digital – Live Green,” this year’s program aims to connect digital payments with smart consumption and sustainable development. According to the organizers, a digital transaction can eliminate the need for a physical trip, while electronic invoices can help reduce paper consumption. When adopted on a large scale, these small changes in transaction habits can generate positive environmental impacts and contribute to more sustainable consumption.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan speaks at the press conference
Speaking at the event, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Director General of the SBV’s Payment Department, noted that, as digital transformation continues to fundamentally change the way people access financial services, expanding the scope of the program and renaming it “Vietnam Digital Payment Day” represents a natural and necessary step forward. The change reflects the evolving reality of a diverse and increasingly integrated payment ecosystem in which individuals and businesses remain at the center.
According to Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, 2026 marks a new stage of maturity for Vietnam’s digital payment market. The theme “Tap Digital – Live Green” reflects the banking sector’s shift toward deeper integration, with payment services increasingly embedded in interconnected digital ecosystems such as healthcare, education, public services, and transportation, while maximizing economic benefits and reducing social costs.

Digital Payments: A key pillar of Vietnam’s national digital transformation
Mr. Pham Anh Tuan stated that Vietnam’s digital payment ecosystem had made remarkable strides. The number and value of transactions conducted through internet banking, mobile devices and, in particular, QR codes have continued to grow at high rates.
Digital payments have become increasingly embedded in everyday economic activities, from large supermarkets and shopping malls to traditional markets and small street vendors, while also expanding beyond domestic borders to connect with regional and global markets. Mobile devices and QR codes have enabled virtually any location to become a convenient and cost-effective payment acceptance point.
Alongside this growth in scale, safety and security remain top priorities for the banking sector. Through the integration and verification of population data, data cleansing, and the implementation of biometric authentication for millions of customer records, the banking system has strengthened its ability to prevent fraud and other risks, helping safeguard substantial amounts of customers’ assets.
Beyond the growth in transaction volumes and values, one of the most notable achievements has been the improvement in service quality and customer experience. The seamless integration of banking services with essential utilities, including healthcare, education, transportation, and public services, has contributed to creating a truly digital environment in which people can access and complete a wide range of transactions through a single touchpoint.
According to Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, in the coming period, the banking sector will continue to regard digital payments as a key pillar of Vietnam’s national digital transformation. The SBV will focus on further improving the legal framework, promoting modern payment services, and strengthening public-private partnerships to build a comprehensive, safe, efficient and user-centered digital payment ecosystem.
