The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and the GIZ jointly organized the Toundtable discussion on “Practices of Sustainable green banking actitivities in Commercial banks” in Hanoi on November 16.

Speaking at the roundtable, Director General Nguyen Tien Dong of Credit Department acknowledged the key role of the banking sector in providing funds to the economy and orienting green investment, and the importance of credit risk management for the objectives of green growth and economic restructuring.
He said that the SBV has been formulating pilot program on green credit for SMEs as well as scheme on formulating green credit fund; actively coordinating with international institutions and foreign banks, including green climate funds of United Nation and large foreign banks such as Commerzbank to mobilize funds for green growth. He emphasized that green growth, green credit and green banking activities are relatively new fields so he requested attendants to discuss and give recommends for the formulation of green credit program of Vietnam’s banking sector.
At the roundtable, Mr. Rudiger Senft, Director of Corporate Responsibilities at Commerzbank AG, exchanged his views with the attendants, on several substances such as: strategy and operations of Commerzbank related to green banking activities, sustainable green credit; management of social and environmental risks at Commerzbank; Commerzbank’s policies and regulations on environmental and social risks; organizational structure of green bank of Commerzbank, functions and tasks of Competence Center in Frankfurt and Hamburg…
Moreover, the attendants exchanged their views on measures of implementing sustainable green banking activities in Vietnam: the needs of the Government’s assistance for funding with referential interest rate, tax policy for corporate implementers; enhancement of information task on sustainable development…
